Jones & Shipman Hardinge

Stand No 5368 Hall 5

MACH 2014 – April 7th – 11th

Jones & Shipman Hardinge is using the MACH 2014 platform to give a UK debut to two new grinding machines at MACH – both being significantly upgraded J&S machines – and will also be featuring a Super Precision T42 turning centre from Hardinge Super-Precision Europe. Brand new from J&S are its latest version cylindrical grinder – the J&S Suprema 1000M – in addition to the new and upgraded J&S 524 EASY surface and profile grinder. Also featured is the high specification Ultramat 1000 CNC touch screen controlled universal grinder and a Kellenberger Kel-Vista UR 175/1000 universal cylindrical grinder. All four machines highlight the Hardinge Grinding Group’s extensive capabilities across the spectrum of grinding from very high precision one off or tool room work machines to batch work or demanding high volume production operations. The Super Precision T42 turning centre from Hardinge Super-Precision Europe sets a new standard in high-precision and high-performance turning that will take part quality and manufacturing capabilities to new standards. T-Series machines are ideal for two axis high precision machining or complex multi-tasking operations that require a high level of precision, delicate part handling and for parts made complete in a single setup. The J&S stand at MACH is a testimony to British manufacturing at its best. Founded in Leicester 115 years ago, the J&S marque is still at the forefront of design and UK manufacture of cylindrical, surface, profile and creep feed grinding machines. Today however, J&S is also a UK gateway to a massive global resource within the Hardinge Grinding Group that features a family of leading names – Kellenberger, Hauser, Tschudin, Tripet and most recently, Usach. Here every aspect of grinding is addressed – jig, creep feed, cylindrical, surface, internal and profiling – with machines suited to the spectrum of exacting one off toolroom use to very high volume automated machining lines. In the UK Jones & Shipman is the point of access for all machines, offering application, sales and technical support in addition to lifetime support through its highly experienced network of engineers. Jones & Shipman Hardinge managing director Mike Duignan comments; “We are delighted to maintain our long tradition of introducing new and innovative products using the MACH exhibition as a platform. “The common denominators bonding all Hardinge Group companies together are very high precision of finished components, consistency, superb standards of manufacture and constant innovation, resulting in a package of products and support that offer an outstanding return on investment,” he explains. Jones & Shipman remains committed to its UK roots but today offers unprecedented access and support across the Hardinge Grinding Group. Upgraded Suprema for greater productivity and flexibility.

Jones & Shipman Hardinge

Stand No 5368 Hall 5

MACH 2014 – April 7th – 11th

The latest J&S Suprema 1000M is a high precision numerically controlled cylindrical grinder which features several important upgrades to help end users achieve even greater productivity and flexibility whilst maintaining the core advantages of the J&S ‘Easy’ programming system. The key upgrade is an uprated control system to a Fanuc Power Motion i-A that offers increased on line storage for dressing and grind programmes with improved reaction times to further improve programming and set up’s. These are accessed via a new colour touch screen used to access J&S’s own simple and fast-to-set ‘Easy’ software, coupled with membrane-type touch keys and electronic handwheels. In effect, these ‘Self-Teach’ grinders will enable inexperienced and experienced operators alike to be immediately more productive. Increased wheel diameters on both the left and right hand external wheels offer longer wheel life and improved productivity by reducing the number of dresses required in the grinding cycles. An optional increase to the wheel head power will also permit further improvements in productivity and reduced time cycles. The ongoing need for high geometric accuracy with quick changeovers on cylindrical grinding machines was a key factor in the design and development of the robust Suprema machines. Available in three grinding length capacities (650mm, 1000mm and 1500mm) an additional bonus comes from each model having automatic dressing and grinding cycles which means they can be quickly set, then left unmanned. J&S 524 EASY has a range of new features!

Jones & Shipman Hardinge

Stand No 5368 Hall 5

MACH 2014 – April 7th – 11th

The latest J&S 524 EASY surface and profile grinder has also been extensively upgraded and now features a Fanuc Power Motion i-A control offering an extensive memory upgrade for dressing and grind programmes with improved reaction times to further improve programming and set up times. This self-teach grinder also uses J&S’s own simple and fast-to-set ‘Easy’ software, coupled with membrane-type touch keys and electronic hand wheels. At start-up it offers the operator three simple options: Manual, Dress or Grind cycle modes. Each option has been developed to the operator easy-to-follow icon based programming screens giving the advantage of CNC control without the complexity of traditional CNC systems. This extremely simple system guides the operator and allows him to digitise positions and create programs without any computer knowledge. Other key features of the latest upgrade include a colour touchscreen and USB connectivity. ENDS Photograph herewith (Reference 2014 J&S EASY)

Kellenberger KEL-VISTA is a good all rounder

Jones & Shipman Hardinge

Stand No 5368 Hall 5

MACH 2014 – April 7th – 11th

Finally the Kellenberger KEL-VISTA UR 175/1000 will be featured. Positioned as an ‘economical/ universal’ CNC grinding machine with a wide range of end user markets the KEL-VISTA 175/1000 can accommodate operations ranging from complex die and mould manufacture to small and medium batch production work. Recognised as ‘a good all-rounder’ it is a cost effective CNC alternative to hydraulically controlled cylindrical grinders and with its simple, user friendly menu based programming, widens its areas of application even to operators with limited programming capabilities. Other features of the UR 175/1000 include a compact design with small footprint, a thermally stable swiveling workhead suited to chuck work and grinding between dead centre’s and thermally optimised bearings to guarantee highest roundness and dimensional accuracy. The ergonomic design with a low machine platform ensure easy manual loading and unloading which also contributes to rapid change over times thanks to a travel stick and hand wheel. A range of options enable the user to tailor the machine precisely to the project in hand. These include external, angle head, universal, twin wheel and fully automatic ‘B’ axis along with loading, gauging and probing. All of these machines will be undertaking live demonstrations on the stand and Jones & Shipman personnel will be available for in-depth discussions on the respective machine capabilities. Super Precision T42 for new standards in part machining.

Jones & Shipman Hardinge

Stand No 5368 Hall 5

MACH 2014 – April 7th – 11th

The Super Precision T42 turning centre from Hardinge Super-Precision Europe sets a new standard in high-precision and high-performance turning. T-Series machines are ideal for two axis high precision machining or complex multi-tasking operations that require a high level of precision, delicate part handling and for parts made complete in a single setup. The T-42 can manufacture the most challenging parts; the machine is designed and manufactured for the sole purpose of performing at the highest tolerances and is ideally suited for hard turning and extremely tight tolerance work throughout all industries. With superior cutting specifications it eliminates many secondary finishing operations while reducing cost and part handling. The machine offers a combination of high performance, high productivity, surface finishes of 8 micro-inch and exacting part roundness of .000015 inches achievable on a consistent basis. Other features include a maximum spindle speed of 6,000 rpm and a Fanuc 31i CNC control. The preferred method of holding a workpiece for precision machining with the T42 is with a collet and the Hardinge designed and built ANSI collet-ready spindle permits the industry’s best part rigidity, since parts are gripped closest to the spindle bearings. As standard are heavy-duty linear guideways, ballscrews and axis drives offering faster traverse rates, longer machine life and greater positioning accuracy. ENDS
