Hardinge Grinding Group adds capability with Voumard acquisition

The scope of specialist grinding machine technology available from Leicester based Jones & Shipman Hardinge has been expanded following Hardinge Inc.’s acquisition of internal grinding specialist Voumard. Hardinge Inc. has acquired the assets of the Voumard internal diameter grinding business from Peter Wolters GmbH in Rendsburg, Germany.VOUMARD_130 These highly regarded machines are now available in the UK and France from Leicester based Jones & Shipman Hardinge who will also be providing the full technical and after sales service support from January 2015. Voumard was founded in Switzerland nearly 70 years ago and has been a global leader in the ID grinding market with an installed base of over 9,000 machines serving more than 2,500 customers worldwide. Having been acquired by Peter Wolters in 2005, the business was subsequently moved to Germany in 2010. Rick Simons, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Hardinge Inc., comments; “We are very excited to add the Voumard products to our already strong line-up of grinding brands which includes Kellenberger, Hauser, Jones & Shipman, Tschudin and Usach. We plan on moving Voumard’s production and support back to its roots in Switzerland, where we will integrate it into the existing Kellenberger business. “The Voumard ID machines are a complement to our current Hardinge Grinding Group product lines, resulting in a complete spectrum of internal and external diameter cylindrical grinding solutions being available to our customers. “Voumard customers can anticipate the same superior quality and technical support they have seen from our Kellenberger operations. This investment continues Hardinge Inc.’s strategy of growing through new product development and targeted acquisitions,” Mr. Simons adds. Jones & Shipman Hardinge UK managing director Mike Duignan comments; “Voumard’s reputation is undoubted, so its portfolio of internal grinding machines is a fantastic addition. Voumard products sit perfectly alongside our Group’s existing extensive range of toolroom, production, cylindrical, surface, creepfeed, jig and bespoke grinding machines. This acquisition really makes J&S the ‘one-stop-shop’ for precision grinding sales and support throughout the UK and France,” he adds. Jones & Shipman Hardinge is a Hardinge Grinding Group company.
