History of Holroyd

1860 Holroyd is founded by John Holroyd manufacturing machine tools, knitting machines and a variety of special machines for domestic use.

1887 The business changes to John Holroyd and Company Limited, adding gear cutting to its portfolio - an industry still in its infancy.

1900 The company’s reputation for worm gear manufacture and gear cutting grows, together with the manufacture of gear cutting machine tools.

1931 The company becomes a world record breaker.  The gears it produces achieve the highest efficiency of any ever produced, at 98%.  This is still a world record today.

1950 An approach is made to John Holroyd and Company to see if their knowledge of gear cutting could be applied to the manufacture of helical screw rotors on a commercial basis.

1964 John Holroyd and Company is taken over by Renold plc.

1967 John Holroyd and Company receive the Queen's Award for Technological Innovation for milling machines and related equipment for the production of screw type helical rotors.

1993 Holroyd receives the prestigious Queen's Award for Technological Achievement for the design and development of a new range of CNC cutter grinding machines.

2004 Holroyd receives for the third time the prestigious Queens Award this time for Enterprise in the innovation section for developing two machines for high accuracy thread and gear grinding.

2006 Precision Technologies Group acquires the business. Today we trade under the name Holroyd Precision Limited and are a company within The Precision Technologies Group.
